MalkaSestra (Little Sister) is the newly formed Blue Mountains chapter of Sydney’s renowned and long established Bulgarian-style female choir, Martenitsa.

MalkaSestra was formed in March 2014, and performed their first concert in May at Springwood Presbyterian Church Hall, where they are based. Three former long-term Martenitsi (Jarnie Birmingham, Naomi Vaughan and Arlene Harvey), now mountains residents, form the solid backbone of the new group who are now in their fourth 10-week season of voice training and rehearsal, to continue discovering, learning and refining the skills necessary to produce the remarkable sound and exquisite harmonies of Bulgarian traditional choral music.
