Oasis at Wauchope and Uralla Arts

This new ensemble toured to McCrossins Mill Museum, Uralla and Wauchope Arts Centre in December 2015.
The following is from Wauchope Arts publicity:

Australia has spawned many wonderful performance combinations involving music or dance or visual arts. Rarely do they combine all three.
Enter the Oasis Ensemble made up of three of Australia’s premier folk musicians plus magnificent Finnish/Middle Easter dancer Päivi Mielikainen.
Together the Oasis Ensemble is a show of light and shade, of dance and musical highlights, brilliant visual and aural colour and spectacular playing.

Strings player Llew Kiek is a multi-ARIA award winner who excels in the music of the Balkans, Asia Minor, Middle East and the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Dr. John Napier is a specialist cello player with a special interest in accompaniment of North Indian vocal music and improvisation in many genres. Andy Busuttil, one of the front-runners in transcultural fusion music in Australia, is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and specialist on Middle Eastern rhythm for dance.
Päivi Mielikainen presents Middle Eastern folkloric dance in its most beautiful light, dancing in spectacular and beautifully crafted costumes.
